Environment Pt 1

What is the relationship of your ground level to surrounding grade?

I would like my ground floor to be leveled to the surrounding site.

What are your exterior materials?

For my main materials I will be using stucco, glass, and possible wood paneling.

Window and door openings: what, where, how big list?

I have three glass walls in my module, two of those will have sliding doors to the private space, while the other will have a swing door emphasizing the entrance. The interior doors will also be sliding.

What is the feel of your interior?

I will have a lot of built in storage space for the individuals occupying my houses. I would like to keep it minimal but sophisticated so will be leaning towards an all white interior with minor details.

Are you using structure as a design element?

As of now, I plan to only show structure of the walls having glass and the roof beams supporting it.

How well do walls and other elements align?

Most of my walls align pretty nicely, I think I only have a question about certain angles that meet and the construction of those.

What is the slope of your roof? Does it overhang the exterior wall?

There are varying slopes for my irregular shaped space, and then a slight angle on my flat roof.

What is your plan for your unique drawing or model?

I plan on either having an exploded axon of the construction or a section model of two walls meeting (one glass one stucco).

  1. Hi Lily,
Having the framing in your plan and in 3D is nice. I’m sure you could make either a nice axon or a section or a section model- for me the key is to show your the living space with the high ceiling and the high wall of glass. Whichever direction you decide to go I’d like to review with you.
Regardless of the format I think you should finish your wall section to answer your remaining questions.
    – see the Structure Post for your foundation and framing.
    – I can help you complete the opposite wall with the glazing and beam to support the roof.
    – stucco and drywall are noted to the wrong sides on the section but otherwise you have the basics of the wall. On the exterior side of the wall, between the studs and the stucco you should add 1/2″ thick sheathing.
