Environment Part I: Cy Wu

What is the relationship of your ground floor level to surrounding grade?

  • I want the ground floor be the flat wooden floor. The outside of unit will be a garden and a path. In the center of units which on both side will be a path as well, but standing above water. There will be some three placed between each unit to divided them to keep some private.

What are your exterior materials?

  • The fist fool and the flat surface on the second will be Integral color cement stucco, and the rest of the second floor will be concrete.

Window and door openings: What (are they made of), where (in a wall, recessed or projecting) and how big (list widths and heights)?

  • The entry door will be 3’x7′ and made of wood, a recessed door. The windows on the first floor are 8’x5′, 6’x5′, 4’x5′, 2’x5′, and 3’x9′. They all made of glass and place in a wall. On the second floor the terrace door is glass door and place in wall, which is 8′-6″ wide. The bathroom door on the second floor is 2.5’x7′ slid door which made of wood.

What is the flle of your interior (materials, buil-in shelving, cabinets…) ?

  • I want the interior made of plywood everywhere.

Are you using (exposed structure as a design element?

  • Yes, I want to have exposed wood beam and columns

How well do walls and other elements align (do you have cantilevers or offsets)?

  • My unit has two floor, the first floor is going to a square cut one corner with two 90 degree of concave, the second is going to offset the first floor and remain one 90 degree concave.

What is the slope of your roof? Does it overhang the exterior wall?

  • It is going to be a flat roof, the place which remain after offsetting will be a terrace.

What is your plan for your “unique” drawing?

  • I want to show the different height of windows on the second floor by showing the section drawings and how these windows are connected.

  1. Hi Cy-
I think a building section through your building is a good idea for your unique drawing. Through the stair and showing the 2nd floor terrace is nice. Let’s discuss the materiality of your exterior wall to make sure I’m understanding what you want with stucco and concrete. I’d also like to know where the columns are and which direction your floor joist will run. Look at the Structure post to research the framing and better understand your foundation and concrete floor slab for the ground floor (you can still have a wood finish floor over that).
We’ll discuss some of the questions you have identified in your drawing up at the roof level and how you’re going to make your roof terrace.
