Phase 5.1- Proposal

For my project I want to focus on the current major age range that uptown fulfill. People that are in there mid 20’s to 30’s are most common in Uptown so creating an environment that serves them is the best option for this.

  1. Derek,

We’ll talk about this on Friday as you’re not the only one thinking about the predominant population of Uptown and how to respond to that in your proposal. I will say that so far you’re the most clear and concise in coming down on the side of taking that and running with it. Nothing wrong with that, but I will push you on Friday to:
    1. be more precise about the demographics in Uptown (draw from the research already done).
    2. Have an answer for why you think the neighborhood needs “more of the same”
    3. Tell us what public programs you think make sense

To really respond to your examples I think we need to know more about why you selected them. Why are they relevant to what you’re interested in doing with your project? You can start to answer this even without having identified your shared programs- I certainly get how the Via 57 courtyard, the valley, and the shiika from your precedent could all relate just to your residential program, but they are not the same. So the missing step is for you to draw diagrams of your “building”, try including all 3 of those (in different diagrams) so we can compare how they work.

2 of your precedent diagrams use a language of discrete program zones (and overlap zones), while the other is showing different senses of grouping within the same overall building. Both good precedents- I’m guessing the latter might be harder to utilize at this point, but pick one (or try both) and make diagrams.
