Using cut up pieces of an old box, slanting them and repeating across the 6″x6″ site, I was able to work with the concept of merging multiples of the same space under the same roof to create a sense of “rooms” without using walls or doors.
The main concept of this iteration was for the user to be able to travel from space to space all under 1 roof and getting a different experience in each separate space though its relationship to its adjacent spaces and the exterior space created by the edges of the boxes.

While experimenting and playing with materiality, I discovered post it notes would be a great material to convey different and changing of surfaces and uses of space. I decided to create a pattern that forces the user to weave through the space and have the ability to take multiple paths across. The post it notes also allowed for “hills” to be a usable surface for a user to lay down on.
The overall concept of this model was to create multiple paths and different experiences user.

I set out to create a gathering or plaza type of space. The 2 canopies made from tooth picks curve in towards the center of the site to create an implied gathering area. The canopies create 2 separate gathering spaces. Since gathering spaces can be crowded and overwhelming, so I created a semi public, more private space in the corner. The lack of walls remains consistent with the gathering concept but the separate spaces allows for some relief from a crowded area.
The main concept of this model was to use the toothpicks to create a surface that emerged from the ground level into a space that would be a canopy and users.
