Phase 2 Review – Case Study Studies

Blend : This building blends the use of public and private space. Having public space within the building also blends what people are using the building. There are the people who reside there, and also people who come to just visit.
Intersect : These pre-fabricated units were made so they can be stacked and intersected. This intersection allows for interesting patio space pushing the boundary of public and private space.
Weave : The circulation throughout the building doesn’t just go up and down or side to side. The circulation weaves in, out, and around the building to create unique spaces between. The circulation weaves from more publicly accessible spaces to more private spaces.
Gather : Instead of each unit or individual having a personal balcony, each floor has a gathering space. These gathering spaces can be used by any resident within the building.
Overlap : the public and private spaces overlap each other creating these unique balcony opportunities which residents could then communicate with one another. This also overlaps the natural environment to create the form of the building.
Laminate : The lamination of spaces blur the boundary of what is public and what is private. Because the programs are vertically laminated in close proximity to one another, it is hard to differentiate were one program starts and one program ends.
Bundle : There are two main bundles in this building. The public bundle, the first and second floors, which contains offices, courtyards and parking. Then the private bundle which is made up of the remaining floors.
Merge : In this building, one unit doesn’t necessarily have to go to one person. One person can merge a group of units together to create a larger unit.
Mix : This project has a mix of program. Along with residential living, there is also a bar, a hotel, a mall, shops, and a track.
Bind : The residential living and the community center are bound together by a central patio area. The private sector has access to view the patio area and the community center visually which binds them together.
