Phase 1A : Assignment

Examples From My Daily Life

Slide 1 MTCC: This breaks the boundaries of sharing because someone can easily stand behind you and look down at what you are doing.

Slide 2 SSV, South: Sharing a small apartment with two other people breaks many sharing boundaries, like having to wait to use the kitchen or eat in your individual room if people are occupying the main living space.

Slide 3 Kaplan Institute: In these “private” desk areas someone can easily stand behind you and watch as you work.

Examples From The World

Slide 1 Lucky Drops: This thin, narrow house has no vertical elements that separates spaces, only horizontal ones. But these horizontal ones are see-through and somewhat transparent.

Slide 2 Central Park: Central Park offers a public green space for the entire city, compared to the surrounding city which is extremely dense and cramped.

Slide 3 House in Kashiwa: In this house all the private sectors of the house are open, with no solid dividing wall, so whom ever is using the central gathering space can easily look into any other room.

    Photos From Review

Slide 1 Sharing Outdoor Balcony: I thought this diagram was interesting because itacuratly showed how the balcony views are merged. Having the clear wall allows for visual transparency but not physical.

Slide 2 Community Use: This diagram represents the different uses of space by titling what they are. The more populated or public spaces have more words, and the private space only has one word.

Slide 3 MTCC Bathroom: This diagram shows how the user feels in this space being that the wall to what is usually the most privatized space is transparent.
