The studio project focuses on the XS House as a means to study the housing crisis, a singular and transitional demographic, efficiency and affordability, and community. Tiny homes are stand-alone structures that contain minimally-sized living areas, sleeping spaces, kitchens and bathrooms. A place to sleep, eat, relax, study, clean while also providing safety and privacy.
The main concept stemming from my 2D collage was an idea of a gradation. This transferred over to my 3D collage model with a language intersecting horizontal and vertical planes. Continuing the idea of gradation in my unit I decided to express that through different ceilings heights. A central core adds a central gradation from the exterior to the interior spaces which is achieved by a change in ceiling height from 12’ to 7.5’. The stacking of units is introduced to continue the language of intersecting planes used in my collage model.
As for the aggregation, the stacking also creates a gradation of different spaces throughout the site while opening up space on the ground level of the site itself.
