Diagrams
- Use of vernacular material (rammed earth) fits the context of the environment and is used to cool and heat the desert home.
- Manipulation of grid system (slide, scale etc.) to create hierarchy by providing larger and smaller spaces for different programing without deviating from the grid.
- Grouping utilities at the corners of the home in enclosed spaces to make wiring and plumbing easier and open up the center of the home for open living space. This is in contrast to grouping utilities in the center of the home.
- Patios in the home are on the east to west axis, providing sunrise views from a morning patio and sunset views from an evening patio.
- Fireplace placed on the east side strategically to warm the morning patio while residents sit outside to watch the sunrise after a cold night.
- Use of 6 foot bookshelves as walls to divide up the open space and maintain flexibility.
- Large glass windows and sliding doors maintain an open center of the home and provide views across the home, south to north.
