Moving Forward
- The Tread Machiya House taught me new ways to connect and define space. The interior uses walls sparingly and connects spaces with views and large stairs that provide easy transition and space in circulation routes.
- Atelier Bow Wow also has shown how using minimal materials can create a very impact space that focuses purely on form while keeping the materials used in upmost quality.
- The architecture creates the furniture from the floor and walls having them flow seamlessly out of the plains naturally.
- Methods of providing large amounts of natural light while keeping privacy and not puncturing all walls or covering walls with windows is also very significant. The space is lit well and looks comfortable and connected with the outdoors while creating a safe warm space with the wooden walls.
- Placement of rooms within the house is thought through very methodically. Private spaces are hidden from the exterior and separated from the main program spaces of the interior. This is a very important gesture with the house because the interior has almost no walls.
- Using section as the ruling method of program is very apparent with 6 floors of space created in such a small house. splitting the front and back to create the semi floors make the travel between natural
- While crafting the model I learned new methods of creating base, walls, and crafting a section through a model. I will take what I have learned and extract the best methods and improve.
