For my assigned neighborhood, I was intrigued by the facades of the buildings and the depth they created. I specifically chose facades with exposed semi-structural elements such as arches, which were prevalent in the area. My goal was to find elements that tied these facades together. With my collage, I represented all of the facades as semi-transparent and overlaid them over each other which created different ways you could visually read the collage. Some parts of the collage came to the forefront as others fell to the background and there became this playfulness between the facades. In addition, there was a level of uncertainty when reading the collage as to what layer belonged where, which was left to the viewer to decide. Furthermore, I removed all of the windows to create opening within which the other facades could peek through. When transitioning into my model form I chose to recreate the facades with exaggerated depth and accent the elements which intrigued me. These elements included: arches, columns, wood structure and brick patterns.
