“SHIELD” PAVILLION DRAWINGS:

A01 Phase 2 ORTHOGRAPHIC VIEWSA01 Phase 2 FINAL (Parts+Pieces)

When thinking about how to design our pavilion, the “SHIELD”, we felt it was important to represent the concept of a harsh exterior with the a soft and comforting interior. Our pavilion was initially designed to protect from the harsh reality of gun violence in the surrounding neighborhood. This really transformed into a general safe space for the community.

Translating through drawings was best shown in the side elevation, the front elevation, and the side section. I tried using shading through Rhino Rendering to create the harshness of the exterior and the softness of the interior. I used a hybrid technique of paring the line work over the Rhino rendering to establish a clear and concise drawing. My scale figures are shown occupying the space inside, thus reinforcing the idea of the safe space created by the pavilion.

I added an axonometeric view from the back to pair the detailed view of how the joints and braces come together. The screws were well hidden from the inside in the construction of the pavilion. I felt this was best represented in the parts and pieces drawing with screws not disrupting the interior and only emphasizing the harsh exterior. The “sandwiching” of the joints and braces is also shown to give context of how the pavilion was constructed.
